This chandelier relates closely to the metalwork designs of George Walton, particularly his lighting and decorative metalwork executed in steel and copper. Comparable examples of Walton’s work are held in the collection of the Victoria and Albert Museum, where his designs are characterised by a restrained use of materials and a distinctive geometric language. The combination of metals, together with the arrangement of interlocking circular and oval planes, reflects Walton’s interpretation of the Arts and Crafts style: simple materials organised into rhythmic, layered forms that convey a refined and distinctly urban sophistication.
