Cox & Sons was a large operation that catered to the Gothic Revival. They were famous for their "Catalogues of Art Manufactures," which allowed homeowners and clergy to order high-quality artistic pieces through mail-order style booklets. The design for the current lot appears in one of these illustrated catalogues circa 1870-2, the specific page highlighting their "Artistic Domestic Glass," which was designed to bring the beauty of stained glass into the Victorian home. The screen, no. 269, was advertised at 10 guineas.
