Note: William Shirreffs was born in Aberdeenshire and moved to Glasgow in 1870 to study sculpture under William Mossman Junior at Glasgow School of Art. He produced many public statues and architectural carvings and portrait busts and exhibited at the RGIFA, the RA and at the 1888 International Exhibition in Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow. In the 1880s he was assistant to James Pittendrigh MacGillivray in the making of his Monument to William Ewart Gladstone in Atholl Crescent, Edinburgh.
