Footnote
Tai Shan Schierenberg and John Kirby attended art school in London at the same time in the 1980s and became friends. John was scouted by Angela Flowers at his degree show and was then represented by Flowers Gallery for the entirety of his career. Tai also went on to become one of the gallery artists at Flowers, who continue to represent him to this day. This intimate group of portraits were acquired directly from the artist’s studio by John over the course of their friendship.
