Tai-Shan Schierenberg is a British painter who emerged from the London art school scene of the 1980s, a formative period that shaped a generation of figurative artists. During his studies he formed close personal and professional relationships with fellow painters, including John Kirby, friendships that would remain central to his artistic life and practice.
Following his early career development, Schierenberg became associated with Flowers Gallery, joining a group of artists whose work was championed by Angela Flowers. He continues to be represented by the gallery to this day.
Schierenberg’s painting is closely tied to observation, intimacy and sustained engagement with his subjects. The portraits he produced during this period often arose from personal relationships rather than formal commissions, allowing for a directness and psychological depth that distinguishes his work.
