Description
London: L. Harrison for J. Jenkins, [n.d.]. Large 4to., (36 x 28 cms.), engraved title-page with hand coloured vignette, 55 (including the frontispiece) hand coloured engraved aquatints by T. Sutherland, J. Jeakes and Bailey after T. Whitcombe, but without the portraits of Nelson and St. Vincent (as usual) and lacking the black and white plan and the list of subscribers contemporary red morocco, marbled boards, edges rubbed, corners knocked, some very light offsetting from the plates, otherwise internally a fine copy.
Note: Abbey Life 337; Tooley 282, Tooley describing the work as complete without the two portraits. Early issues have plates watermarked 1812-1816 and a publication date of 1817 is usually assigned to this work. However copies appear with the plates marked with later dates. In this copy the majority of the plates are unwatermarked except for a few which are watermarked 1837.
