Cook's ship was the first to cross the Atlantic circle. Cook circumnavigated the pole, penetrating further than anyone else was able to accomplish in the next fifty years. The ship also carried Harrison's K-1, a clock that enabled the calculation of the ship's longitude aa part of Harrison's efforts to establish an accurate method of determining longitude at sea. The voyage was also remarkable that of 112 man crew, none diedfrom scurvy as a result of Cook's great concern for the health of his sailors.
