Performed under the directions of Captain Cook, Clerke, and Gore, in His Majesty's ships the Resolution and Discovery in the years 1776, 1778, 1779 and 1780...2nd edition, 4 volumes, with 24 plates and maps of which many are fldg bound with the text, and 61 large engraved plates and 2 fldg. charts in the folio volume, 4to. volumes in contemporary light tan calf, covers with gilt ruled and blind tooled border, spine decorated gilt in compartments, dark green lettering, pieces, folio volume in paper boards, backstrap missing, some plates misbound in all volumes, occasional off-setting from the plates, some light foxing of a few leaves in volume 3, margins of fist plate in the folio collection dusty and with staining, margins of another couple of plates also with some staining, otherwise a superb set with very good margins, 4to. & folio, London, 1775

Note: Printing & the Mind of Man 223. Official account of the second of Cook's three great which opened up the Pacific to western civilisation and by the foundation of Bristish Australia. The account gave for the first time an essentially complete account of the Pacific Ocean and Australia, with Cook proving once and for all that there was no great Southern continent. The work contains the first printed map of Hawaii.
