A New Poem. Edinburgh: [for the author], 1901. Printed broadside (30 x 22.5cm), signed by the author ‘Sir Wm Topaz McGonagall Poet’ in black ink, text in two columns, royal arms to head, a few chips, tears and marks, old folds

'So thus fell Tippoo Sahib, a very cruel man,
And his great fortress of Seringapatam;
And the spoil that fell into the British hands was great,
Money, jewels, and arms, likewise costly silver plate.'
A very rare printed broadside poem by the infamous Scottish poetaster, commemorating the final victory of British forces over Tipu Sultan in the Fourth Anglo-Mysore War in India a century before. No other copy found in auction records, and only the National Library of Scotland copy traced in libraries.
