First edition, deluxe issue, one of 500 numbered copies signed by the author, 2 volumes, large 8vo, original half pigskin, edges untrimmed, xvi [2] 268, viii [2] 269-529 pp., title-pages printed in red and black, photogravure frontispieces, folding map, 47 photographic plates (including photogravures), captioned tissue-guards, with the dust jackets. Spotting to endpapers, occasionally to textblock, pp. 431-2 with closed tear extending into text, volume 2 with short nicks to foot of spine, dust jacket spine-panels nicked and chipped and with browning to versos, volume 1 with hint of erosion to top edge of rear board and corresponding areas of dust jacket (2)
