Paris: Imprimerie Royale, 1831. 4to (29.6 x 22.1cm), red embossed calf, decorative gilt and blind-stamped borders, spine richly gilt and with raised bands, edges gilt, blue moiré silk pastedowns and endpapers, head of spine damaged with slight loss of leather, corner tips bumped, paper toned throughout to various degrees with some browning, occasional spotting

Specially bound copy of the annual publication of the French Ministry of the Navy, recording the naval and colonial budget for the years 1829-30, with introduction and explanation of the budgets made by Henri de Rigny, dated July 1, 1831. The work covers the period from the fall of the House of Bourbon (Charles X) in 1830 and the accession of the House of Orléans (Louis Philippe I ) and includes: a detailed list of all ships in the French Navy, their status, mission, and condition of service; expenses for provisions and armaments; investments in ports and naval equipment; expenses for hospitals, salaries, and other special expenses. It also includes a list of all maps and plans published by the French Navy and the official royal decrees relating to Haitian independence and compensation for former plantation owners. Other geographical areas covered are Egypt (transport of the Luxor obelisks to Paris), Algeria, Madagascar, the Levant, expeditions to China and Brazil. There are also details of the financing of various important expeditions, such as that of the corvette La Favorite in the seas of China, commanded by Cyrille Laplace, and the mission to Brazil, commanded by Admiral Albin Roussin.
