Description
George Mackay Brown. Three autograph letters signed, 1979, 1983 and undated (but c.1983), each on one side only of a single sheet (2 on foolscap, one on smaller notepaper), including reflections on Orkney life including the St Magnus Festival ('Some bits of it are very enjoyable, but I find it so boring to ‘talk culture’ for hours on end'), and a discussion of a possible television adaptation by Catherine Czerkawska of his short stories ‘Cinquefoil’ and ‘A Winter Tale’. Together with: signed Christmas card, 1983, single bifolium with GMB's poem ‘House of Winter’ printed to front cover and GMB's autograph inscription ‘Happy Christmas from George’ to inside; an envelope addressed by GMB by hand; and copies of 2 novels by GMB (Greenvoe, 1972, with Czerkawska's ownership inscription, and Greenvoe, 1973, with Hogarth Press review slip, both first editions with dust jackets).
Ian Hamilton Finlay. Two autograph letters on Wild Hawthorn Press postcards, 1974 and undated, the latter containing the rules for IHF's board game ‘Pacific’, with a small doodle of a yacht. Together with: Fishing News, Wild Hawthorn Press, 1970, one of 375 copies signed by IHF, single sheet of paper printed in colours and folding in concertina format; 30 Signatures to Silver Catches, Tarasque Press, c.1970, one of 300 copies signed by IHF; Fishing News News; another Wild Hawthorn Press postcard, addressed by IHF by hand to Catherine Czerkawska; and 3 related books
