… from the Year 1793 to 1817. London: Printed for J. Jenkins, [1816-7]. First edition, large 4to (34 x 25.6cm), engraved title page with uncoloured vignette denoting an early issue, contemporary purple-black calf decorated in gilt and blind, publisher's printed yellow label ‘Naval Achievements, Coloured Plates, Thirteen Guineas’ to front pastedown, 55 engraved aquatints by T. Sutherland, J. Jeakes and Bailey after T. Whitcombe, but without the portraits of Nelson and Lord St. Vincent (as usual), and the black and white plan and the list of subscribers, one of the battle of Trafalgar plates bound as frontispiece, hinges cracking but firm, tissue guards heavily foxed, plates in good condition [Abbey Life 337; Tooley 282, Tooley describing the work as complete without the two portraits]

‘Collectors should note that evidence of early state in this book can be found in the title-page vignette, originally issued uncoloured, and coloured only in later issues. The book was reprinted as late as 1840, copies having been seen with watermarks of the date’ (Abbey).
