Proof copy, 8vo in 16s (20.4 x 13.4cm), contemporary pink card wrappers, cloth spine-label lettered in gilt, 1037 pp., with typescript title-page (reading ‘GONE WITH THE WIND by MARGARET MITCHELL’, manuscript numerals below, ink-stamped ‘PROOF’) but no other preliminary matter, spine rolled and worn and with section of paper detached (now laid in), contents toned, frequent marks and blemishes, many leaves dog-eared, a few marginal nicks and tears, cancellation ink-stamps to title-page and p. 829, pp. 169/70 shorter and with repaired fraying along edges, ink-stamp of Stoke Newington Public Libraries on p. 201, pencil markings to p. 795, final leaf pasted to following blank and with lower half excised

A set of unbound printer's proof sheets was sold as part of the famous library of Richard Manney at Sotheby's New York in 1991 with the same pagination and also lacking printed preliminary matter, though signed in twelves rather than sixteens as here.
