Description
probably Switzerland or Germany, early 17th century. 4to (19.1 x 15cm), contemporary continental binding of blind-tooled pigskin with metal clasps, text in Latin, [7], 635 pp., approx. 30 lines to the page, written in a clear and legible hand (apparently the same hand throughout), index to front, dated 26th November 1614 at end of text, headings written in a larger Fraktur-style script, crack to head of front joint, upper cords split, front free endpaper and several leaves consequently loose, damp-staining to gutter and upper margins
Provenance
Ownership inscriptions of one Josephus Franciscus Mettler dated 1734 and 1739 to the front free endpaper and final page (p. 635), possibly Josef Franz Mettler (1661-1748), recorded as a senior government official in the canton of Schwyz in Switzerland.
