4to (24.6 x 20.2cm), stitched in contemporary marbled wrappers, manuscript label to front wrapper, manuscript title-page incorporating list of contents, ‘William Struthers Atlas … South Ronaldshay, 1844’, double-page double-hemispheric world map and 8 single-page maps (Europe, England, Scotland, Ireland, Asia, Africa, North America, South America), all in pen and ink with outline colour, the North America map showing the territory of the United States the year before the admission of Florida (here still ‘East Florida’) and Texas to the Union, and four years before the admission of California and other states after the Mexican America War, Alaska named as ‘Russian Territory’, additional ownership inscription ‘William Struthers’s Book, Smiddy Banks, South Ronaldshay, Orkney' to rear blank, housed in a custom blue cloth solander box
