The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe is the first published novel of seven in The Chronicles of Narnia series by C. S. Lewis. A close friend of J. R. R. Tolkien, Lewis chose Pauline Baynes to illustrate this book, and the following six, after admiring Baynes's illustrations for Tolkien's Farmer Giles of Ham.
