Paris: Imprimerie nationale, 1871-84. 7 volumes, large 4to (35.4 x 36.3cm), contemporary library bindings of half morocco (5 vols.) and buckram (2 vols.), from a series of monographs published by the French government from 1868 onwards on the flora, fauna, anthropology and antiquities of Mexico and other Central American countries, consisting of:
Guillemin-Tarayre, Edmond. Description des Anciennes Possessions Mexicaines du Nord, part of Géologie (1871), caption title, relating to geology and mining in California and Nevada, incomplete text ends in mid-sentence on p. 216, with 19 plates (engraved and lithographed), including maps and plans, several folded and some hand-coloured, numerous illustrations;
Nylander, William [et al.]. Mexicanas plantas nuper a collectoribus expeditionis scientificae allatas, (1872-86), [no series title, but presumably part of ‘Recherches botaniques’], vol. 2, 2 volumes in 1, 6 lithograph plates (uncoloured) of plants in vol. 1;
Vaillant, Léon, and Bocourt, [Firmin]. Hamy, E.T. Anthropologie du Mexique, part of ‘Recherches zoologiques’ (1884), vol. 1, 21 [19] lithograph plates of human skulls and bones, plates 12 and 18 not present (as noted in other copies inspected including the Bnf);
all volumes with bookplates of Manchester Free Public Libraries or Manchester Central Library Reference Library, some of the plates have embossed library stamps, some dust soiling and staining in all the volumes but generally internally very clean (7)
