Kate Greenaway's Birthday Book for Children, c.1920. Inscribed ‘To Merle from Angus’ (i.e. Merle Taylor, 1909-1985, only daughter of Jessie M. King and Ernest Archibald ‘E. A.' Taylor) on front free endpaper, signed by Jessie M. King in the blank panel corresponding to her birthday (under her married name, ‘Mrs E. A. Taylor’), and by others including E. A. Taylor and William Peploe ('Willy Peploe'). Together with: Tennyson, Poems, 1923, with Kirkcudbright Academy prize plate addressed to Merle Taylor, 1924-25; 2 books inscribed by or to E. A. Taylor (including Sappho: One Hundred Lyrics by Bliss Calman, 1906); 3 books with the ownership inscription or Bearsden Girls' School prize plate of Jessie's sister Peggy (Margaret) King (including Oliver Wendell Holmes, The Autocrat of the Breakfast Table); a 12mo Bible in French inscribed to Jessie M. King's sister Ada from their mother; a copy of Lavengro with a laid in note to Merle [Taylor]. And approx. 20 other books with the same provenance but without apparent markings (qty)
