Description
4to (23.5 x 17cm), 4 leaves (final leaf is blank), written on parchment in black and gold ink in humanistic bookhand in single column, with borders in blue, red and gold with floral motifs, coat of arms on verso of front leaf, in contemporary (Italian?) full leather binding with paper endpapers, elaborate gilt tooling to upper and lower boards with central wheel and quarter-circle cornerpieces within a panel, doctoral diploma of law conferred by the University of Padua (in 1695) upon ‘Josephum Maria Cannetu[m] Schlede[n]sem Vicentinu[m], D[omini]. Francisci filiu[m]’ [Giuseppe Maria Canneti from Schio (?) and Vicenza, the son of Franciscus?], Vincenzo Bonifacio, titular bishop of Famagusta in Cyprus, is named as one of the people conferring the degree, covers sprung, with leaves cockled and soiled at edges and detached from binding, gilt on front board faded
