First edition, 8vo (20.2 x 13.4cm), x [2] 453 pp., modern reddish-brown crushed half morocco, gilt spine, marbled sides, half-title, 12 wood-engraved plates including frontispiece, hand-coloured folding lithographic map, 3 wood-engraved vignettes in text, 32 pp. advertisements to rear, original cloth front cover bound in at rear, pencilled provenance note 'Ex libris Harold Ingrams CMG' to front pastedown, with a bookseller's catalogue description for this copy laid in, annotated ‘Nicholas Morrell, Travel Catalogue XVI, April ’98', spine rolled, prelims bound slightly askew, pp. 154/5 sometime crudely tipped in with tape, now near-detached, concomitant staining to gutter also affecting adjacent leaves, pp. 17/18 and 241/2 each with upper fore corner lacking (not affecting text) (2)
