Isaac Jones (c.1883-1957) was an Australian-born physician who worked at London's St Thomas's Hospital before transferring to the Metropolitan Police, where he served as chief medical officer for almost 30 years. According to a letter sent to the vendor in 1996, gifting the work, the picture was originally acquired at a sale at Bonhams after Jones's death.
