Footnote
The present thangka seems to be a less elaborate rendition compared to a thangka of the Qianlong Emperor as Manjusri, the Bodhisattva of Wisdom, made by the Imperial workshop, with face by Giuseppe Castiglione (Lang Shining, 1688–1766), Qing dynasty, Qianlong period, in the Freer Gallery of Art, Smithsonian Institution, accession no. F2000.4. Also see another similar thangka, previously in the Qing Court collection, now in the Palace Museum, Beijing, accession no. gu 故00006485.
