Dominique Zumbo was trained by his potter father who moved his family from Sicily to France in 1879. Dominique worked for Clément Massier helping him to create lustre glazes, before in 1892 setting up his own studio in Arènes, near the Roman arena Fréjus (Var). He exhibited at the Turin exhibition of 1898 where he won gold and silver medals. Zumbo collaborated with Jean Carriès as well as Rupert Carabin. This current vase has much in common with the work of Carabin with the fluid form of the figure being incorporated into a vessel.
