Zhu Menglu, also know as Zhu Cheng, was a master of freehand flower-and-bird painting. He inherited and further developed Yun Shouping's "boneless" technique, employing brushwork that was both concise and vivid, with elegant and understated colouring.
He was particularly skilled at depicting the dynamics of birds, creating paintings full of vitality and charm. His works combined the refined taste of literati with the aesthetic appeal of the common people and were widely popular in the art market.
