Best known as JOLOMO, John Lowrie Morrison OBE is one of Scotland’s most recognisable and widely collected contemporary artists.
For more than fifty years he has painted the landscapes and coastal communities of Argyll and the Hebrides, capturing lighthouses, crofts, harbours and sweeping shoreline vistas with his signature use of bold colour and expressive brushwork. His paintings are celebrated for their vibrancy and for the way they evoke the shifting light and weather of Scotland’s west coast.
A graduate of the Glasgow School of Art in 1971, Morrison spent many years working in art education before devoting himself fully to painting. He now works from his studio in Argyll, continuing to explore the places and atmospheres that have shaped his career.
Jolomo has exhibited extensively throughout the UK and internationally, establishing a devoted following among collectors drawn to the immediacy and emotional resonance of his work. His contribution to Scottish art was recognised in 2011 when he was appointed OBE for services to art and charity.
