Iain Clark is a Glasgow-based photographic artist, whose work is held in the permanent collection of the Scottish National Portrait Gallery and the National Portrait Gallery, London as well as private collections across the world.
Iain has attracted positive recognition for his portrait work, which is driven by his passionate interest in the people around him. He says,
“I am fascinated by the human condition and the huge variety of faces that I see every day. I believe that each and every one of us is unique and special. When I work on a portrait I strive to bring out something of the sitter’s soul.”
Clark approaches his work as a twenty-first century response to the eighteenth century art of portraiture, and he often digitally fuses image, colour and identity to create a ‘new way of seeing'.
Recent projects include ‘Intimate Portraits of Scottish Writers at Aye Write Glasgow’s Book Festival,’ where Clark captured the likeness of prominent Scottish writers speaking at the festival. In recognition of his talent for capturing personalities, the Mitchell Library purchased the entire collection of 44 portraits for their permanent collection.
