François Décorchemont was a pioneering French glass artist, celebrated for his mastery of pâte de verre, a demanding technique involving the casting of coloured crushed glass.
He studied at the École nationale des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, where he developed a deep interest in decorative arts and materials innovation.
From 1909 onwards, Décorchemont devoted himself almost exclusively to glass, tirelessly experimenting with form, texture, and colour. His works are characterised by their rich, painterly hues, subtle translucency, and distinctive matt surface. Using finely ground glass mixed with metallic oxides, he created complex moulds that produced vessels and decorative pieces with remarkable depth and delicacy.
