Christine Borland trained at Glasgow School of Art (GSA) and the University of Ulster. A collaborative, research-based interdisciplinary practice saw her often work with experts in science and medicine, as well as in museums, collections and archives.
Solo projects and commissions include The Edinburgh Seven Tapestry, Practice Cloths (2004), Edinburgh Futures Institute, Positive Pattern (2017), The Institute of Transplantation, Freeman Hospital, Newcastle and To Bet Set & Sown in the Garden (2001), University of Glasgow.
Solo exhibitions include Divine Imperfect (2012), Pier Arts Centre, Stromness and Preserves (2006), Fruitmarket Gallery, Edinburgh. Borland’s work is represented in public collections including the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh, Tate and the Migros Museum für Gegenwartskunst, Zurich. Borland was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1997. Her academic career included posts at GSA, the University of Glasgow and Northumbria University. She passed away in 2026, aged just 61.
