We are delighted to present A Passion for Glass: Lalique from a Private Collection, a distinguished group of works opening our forthcoming Lalique auction on 30 April. This collection, assembled by a London-based collector over more than three decades, reflects a lifetime of thoughtful acquisition, careful study, and an unwavering dedication to excellence in glass.

Formed with patience and precision, each piece was sourced from leading auction houses and specialist dealers, predominantly in London, and selected only after rigorous consideration. The collector’s criteria were exacting: every object had to exemplify the highest standards of design, clarity of definition, richness of colour, quality of finish, and exceptional condition. As a result, the collection represents not only refined taste, but also a deep understanding of Lalique’s artistic legacy.

The group offers a rich survey of Lalique’s celebrated production, encompassing clear, frosted, stained, opalescent, and coloured glass. Elegant vases sit alongside finely crafted boxes, each object chosen not simply as a representative example, but as the definitive version of its model. Indeed, each acquisition marked the culmination of a dedicated search - moments of anticipation and satisfaction that underscore the passion behind the collection.

Highlights of the sale demonstrate both the breadth and depth of the collector’s vision. Among them is the striking Aigrettes vase, no. 988 (Lot 1), its smoky grey tone and finely detailed motif exemplifying Lalique’s mastery of surface and form. Equally notable is the rare Serpent vase, no. 896 (Lot 8), designed in 1924, combining clear, frosted and stained glass to dramatic effect. The elegant Escargot vase, no. 931 (Lot 6) and the delicately modelled Monnaie du Pape vase, no. 897 (Lot 18) further illustrate the diversity of Lalique’s output, from naturalistic inspiration to subtle opalescent effects.

A highlight of particular significance is the richly coloured Aras vase, no. 919 (Lot 23), whose deep amber tones and sculptural presence demonstrate the technical and artistic ambition of Lalique’s interwar production.

Complementing the vases, works such as the refined Dinard box, no. 78 (Lot 31) and other finely executed boxes within the group (Lots 27 to 35) underscore the collector’s appreciation for both form and function, and for the intimate scale at which Lalique’s artistry could also be expressed.

Together, these works form more than a collection; they stand as a testament to sustained connoisseurship and to the enduring allure of Lalique glass.
