In our upcoming MODERN MADE auction, we are delighted to present a work by Emily Young, one of Britain’s most celebrated contemporary sculptors.
Working primarily in stone, Young is known particularly for her carved heads, often formed from ancient marble and onyx, where the history of the material plays as much a role as the artist’s hand. This work, beautifully cast in bronze, captures all of the interplay between surface, colour and form that is the hallmark of Young’s work. It has that sense of quiet presence too, a mystical quality that draws you in rather than announces itself.
This sculpture sits within our MODERN MADE auction, a sale that brings together art, design and contemporary craft, breaking down borders between disciplines. MODERN MADE has always been centred in materials – the physical qualities of things - and in this context, Young’s work feels very much at home.
However, what truly sets this lot apart is that all proceeds from its sale will be donated to Allkind, a London-based mental health charity.
