Items of endless beauty and interest

The great thing about working at Lyon & Turnbull is the volume and variety of paintings that I get to discover on a daily basis. Opening emails or walking through our stores can reveal endless beauty and interest, from portraits by Allan Ramsay and Henry Raeburn, to paintings of Iona by S.J. Peploe and F.C.B. Cadell, even contemporary sculpture by Eduardo Paolozzi and Anish Kapoor.

Getting to know these artworks is a joy – whether hearing the owner’s stories, cataloguing the works, researching and writing catalogue entries, even hanging them on the wall. It is a privilege to spend every day learning while surrounded by beautiful objects.

Carly studied History of Art and English Literature at the University of Edinburgh, graduating in 2012.

Always passionate about visual arts, Carly spent fifteen months in the Education team at the National Galleries of Scotland, working on the talks and events programme for adults. Carly has also worked in various Edinburgh-based contemporary arts organisations, including Collective and Inverleith House.

She joined the Paintings department of Lyon & Turnbull in September 2014 as a specialist in Scottish Art and as well as British & European Paintings.
