Note:
Sumptous productions, such as this work, were produced to impress foreign courts and princes with the power and wealth of France. In 1670 Louis XIV had this magnificent volume published by the Royal Press with engravings by Israel Silvestre and Francois Chaveau. One version of the text is in French but as French was not then yet an international court language it was also produced in Latin. The volume broadcast to all important European princes the splendour and magnificence of Louis's celebration that there was a young and powerful French monarch who now had a male heir.
This lot is sold not subject to return.
