Description
the hinged rectangular lid with brass strap hinges opening to reveal the underside of the lid carved and with penwork detail to a blind fretwork foliate border framing scenes of figures and animals in a garden, the back panel decorated in pen and ink with a roaring lion flanked by griffin, below an acanthus scrolled border, the exterior front panel and sides carved with further scenes of figures and animals in a garden within foliate and animal borders, fastened by an iron strap lock, the sides with carry handles
