Footnote
The small plaque on this chair states that it came from Linlithgow Palace, once a stronghold for Scottish royalty and called home by many Stewart kings and queens. Legend has it that the good people of the town rushed to salvage the valuable pieces of furniture as the palace was burned down by the Duke of Cumberland in January 1746 during the Jacobite rebellion. Over time pieces of furniture bearing similar plaques stating their Linlithgow Palace provenance have come to light. Leslie Rankine Taylor's purchased this chair in the early 1960s.
