Description
now within a fluted giltwood frame, depicting twin lions holding oval coats of arms below a crown, one bears motto ‘TRA JUNCIA IN UNO’, lower scrolls read ‘VIRTUS MILLE SCUTA’, some restoration and re-painting

Note: The arms are those of Howard, quartering Brotherton, Warren and Fitzalan with a mullet for difference all within the Order of the Bath accolee with the arms of Cressy quartering primrose for Kenneth, 11th Baron Howard, later created 1st Earl of Effingham of the 2nd Creation (1767-1845) and his wife Charlotte (d. 1864), daughter of the 3rd Earl of Roseberg. Lord Howard was a Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath and a General. He was also Colonel in Chief of the 7th Regiment. After his death, his widow, at the age of 83, married Thomas Holmes Esq.
