Note: Often viewed as an extension of the medieval millefleurs tradition, this type of Flemish Mannerist garden tapestry was being widely produced in the latter part of the 16th century. The present example with its unusual oblique perspective, shows stylistic similarities to a set of five at Warwick Castle, 'Garden Scenes with Mythological Fountains', woven by Francois Speiring in Delft in 1604, with designs attributed to Karel van Manden the Elder.
