Note: This bust of George Bernard Shaw was originally commissioned by Alfred Esdaile as a gift to the Royal Court Theatre. The House Committee placed it in an obscure spot up in the 'Gods', as a snub to the memory of Shaw, seen as the archetype bourgeois. Esdaile, hurt that his gift had been treated in such an undignified manner, reclaimed the statue and it took pride of place in the Music Room at Connaught Place from that day on.
