Description
Britannia lamenting the death of Admiral Lord Nelson … London: W.B. Walker, Dec. 5, 1805. Framed, large size.
Note: Le Quesne 46. Although the three wreaths commemorate Nelson’s other great battles, and the caption makes no reference to Trafalgar, the date of 21 Oct. 1805 in the caption would have been assumed to refer to Trafalgar. Professor Le Quesne speculates that the right hand part of the picture with the plinth and wreaths might have been drawn shortly after the Battle of Copenhagen and later added to and used as a print to make the glass picture commemorating Nelson’s death.
