Footnote
Note: John David was part of the notable Gordon family and they made an indelible mark on history. His brother, Sir James Alexander Gordon was a highly successful Admiral in the British Fleet and became the inspiration for the fictional character “Horatio Hornblower”. One of his cousins was George Gordon Byron, Lord Byron. Following his marriage in 1805 to Maria del Carmen Beigbeider of Xeres de la Frontera, John David continued to support and develop the family estates of Wardhouse and Kildrummy in the North East of Scotland. Their children and subsequent generations are today known as “the Spanish Gordons”.
