the lower part of the baluster shaped cup with lobed cartouches supporting mythological Sirins and swans amidst stylized polychrome floral decoration, within twisted ropework borders, the stylized handles similarly decorated, the underside of the base with engraved inscription in English: ‘To my esteemed friend Frank Johnson after 27 years of business association J. C. Hoagland March 15th 1899’
