Description
Britannia standard, of typical form with scalloped rim with mask finials above a chased frieze of foliate scrolls, the lower section with concave flutes with opposing oval cartouches surrounded by further scrolls, on cartouche engraved in script ‘In commemoration of the Mercer’s Company 13 Jan 1394’, with twin lion mask handles with hinged double-scroll loop handles, the whole on a stepped and domed foot with semi-spiral concave fluting, the plain rim engraved in script ‘Presented by the Mercers Company 13 Jan 1894’

Additionally marked to base ‘Lambert Coventry St London’ and with engraved scratch weight ‘27 oz 10dwt’ and inventory number 148. Presumably made to commemorate five hundred years of The Mercers Company which is the premier livery company in the City of London and was incorporated by Royal Charter in 1394
