the waist length figure finely modelled wearing a pearl necklace and earrings and a blue silk brocade gown beneath a matching drapery, in an ornate carved frame, label verso 'ex John Lumsden Propert collection'

Note:John Lumsden Propert (1834-1902) a previous owner of this work, was a highly successful physician who ran a general practise in New Cavendish Street, London. A connoisseur of the arts, he was also a respected amateur etcher and painter, exhibiting at the Royal Academy between 1870 and 1882. This item, as well as items in the next lot, were purchased at Christies, Manson & Woods sale of the Lumsden collection in 1902.
