Note:Georg Siegmund Stobwasser was one of the best makers of 18th century Japanned papier mâché boxes. Based in Brunswick in Germany he produced large circular lacquered boxes finely decorated with reproductions of paintings of the period. These boxes nearly always bore the Stobwasser name, which was later combined with those who carried on the business into the mid 19th century after his death in 1776.
