Footnote
Sir Frank Brangwyn, a prolific painter, printmaker, draughtsman, and designer, was born in Belgium to English and Welsh parents. The family moved to London in 1875, where Brangwyn attended the Westminster City school. After working for William Morris and learning the principles of design, Brangwyn then travelled to Europe, the Near East, and South Africa, where vivid hues shaped his use of colour. He served as President of the Royal Society of British Artists, while simultaneously designing posters and prints during WWI to raise money for the war effort. Brangwyn was elected a full Royal Academician in 1919 and later attained knighthood, a memorialization of his extraordinary artistic abilities.
