James Watt is the preeminent modern Scottish maritime artist. He dedicated his life to documenting landscape and industry around the River Clyde, and his work constitutes a remarkable record of the changes that took place around the Clyde over the twentieth century. In this composition Watt depicts ships moored at Cessnock, an area of Glasgow situated to the south of the River Clyde.
