Footnote
The twentieth-century British artist Gertrude Hermes exhibited regularly at the Royal Academy and received an O.B.E. shortly before she died in 1983. Her work is held in significant collections including the Tate and the National Portrait Gallery. Freesias geometric woodcut which articulates the flowers’ funnel-shaped forms. Hermes is renowned for the exquisite precision and fine detail of her prints, and Freesias’ use of sharp lines to depict the delicate flowers creates a compellingly graphic contrast.
