The present lot, and lot 26, date to relatively early in Robertson's career when he was still establishing himself as an artist. His first solo exhibitions in the early 1960s were well received, and by the close of the decade he had secured a teaching position at the Glasgow School of Art, where he continued to work until 1996. Downie Robertson is best-known for his evocative and expressive landscape paintings which often interpret scenery around the Clyde and West Renfrewshire.
