George Lyall, C.B.E, born Macduff, Banffshire on 14th March 1883, died Aberdeen on 6th September 1959.
After working as a journalist he entered the diplomatic service first in San Jose, Costa Rica, then in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. Following a period in Vigo, Spain as Consul he was appointed Consul in Berlin and then Consul General. Following the outbreak of World War 2 he was then posted back to Central America as Consul General for both Honduras and Costa Rica, he retired to Aberdeen in 1942.
The translation shows that this is a gift from his San Jose Diplomatic Corps colleagues.
