The firm of Pittar, Lattey & Co of Calcutta was a partnership founded in 1835 by Arthur Pittar who had resided and worked in Calcutta since 1821 when he arrived with his brother (?) and Robert John Lattey who had worked as an assistant to Arthur since 1828. The partnerships would continue with the addition of John Pittar and Arthur Pittar Lattey in 1840, until it was dissolved and continued as Lattey Brothers & Co from 1842.
The business did not only focus on the silver and jewellery trade but also the trade in diamonds. They opened a diamond trading centre in London showing the value they placed on this aspect of the business.
